Thinking about therapy? Here’s how to get started.

There are many reasons that people access psychotherapy and counselling. One of the main reasons that you may seek out therapy is because of displeasure in an aspect of your life or a challenge that needs help to navigate. With the support of a professional, individuals, couples and families can explore the facets of their life and come to find new approaches and tools to view and address the issue.

Therapy is a process and a journey. Connecting with a therapist that you can build rapport and trust with, and that feels like the right fit or match for you as an individual, couple or family, can take time. We recommend booking one or more consultations, with ThriveWell and/or other counsellors, to give you an opportunity to explore, notice how you feel during each consultation, and ultimately for you to make the best choice for you.

Once therapy starts, the first few sessions of the work with a therapist will be a chance to get to know one another and begin building a therapeutic alliance. It is an opportunity to address immediate needs and to identify potential goals and approaches that will most meet your needs.

We will check-in with you throughout your time in therapy, and especially in those first few sessions to see how the therapeutic alliance, approaches and focus of therapy are feeling. If at any time, new issues arise, different directions are needed, or anything doesn’t feel like it fits for you, that’s ok…, we can work to find helpful ways to proceed. We can also connect you to another therapist… whether at ThriveWell, or another private practitioner or community resource that might better suit your wants and needs at that time.

It’s your journey…your way… Reach out to book a free 30-min Meet & Greet to see how ThriveWell can support you on your journey.
